Position Overview
The Underwriting Manager for Voluntary Products is responsible for conducting comprehensive underwriting evaluations and risk analyses for large group contracts ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 members. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a diverse portfolio of cases that encompass various product types, funding models, and rating strategies.
- Preparing and presenting intricate, high-stakes quotes for new business opportunities and renewals.
- Collaborating closely with sales teams and account managers on complex cases.
- Delivering clear and informative presentations to employers, brokers, and consultants.
- Reviewing work meticulously to ensure accuracy, identifying potential risks, and providing strategic recommendations to mitigate these risks while fostering membership growth.
- Utilizing advanced underwriting tools and systems to generate precise quotes and renewals.
- Applying underwriting standards, negotiating financial terms, and granting exceptions within the designated authority limits.
- Ensuring timely production of client-specific documentation and deliverables.
- Leading initiatives for process improvements through automation and workflow enhancements.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in healthcare underwriting, specifically in dental, vision, life, voluntary, or medical pricing methodologies. Additionally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proven success in collaborative efforts to meet or exceed performance expectations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly advanced skills in Excel, is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in voluntary underwriting and a background in engaging with the Broker Market are highly desirable. A minimum of 2 years in this field is preferred.
Education
A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional experience is required.
Compensation
The expected salary range for this position is between $60,000 and $139,200 annually. This range reflects the base salary for all roles within the job grade. Actual offers will be determined based on various factors, including experience and education. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for bonuses and other incentive programs.
