Surgical Technologist Specialist

UPMC Horizon-Shenango Valley, located in Farrell PA, is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the Surgical Services Team. This full-time role will work Monday through Friday 6:30AM to 5:00PM shift with on-call required. Holiday and weekend on-call is required. This is a regionalized position traveling between UPMC Horizon - Shenango Valley and UPMC Jameson.
We are currently offering NEW STARTING RATES AND SIGN-ON BONUSES for all full-time and part-time Surgical Technologist positions. The amount of the sign-on bonus is dependent upon your years of Surgical Technology experience. Don't miss out – this opportunity offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
The estimated salary for this position is around $70,000 per year, based on location and experience. If you have 0-1 years of experience, you can earn up to $12,000 in sign-on bonuses. With 1-2 years of experience, you can earn up to $17,000. For those with 2+ years of experience, the sign-on bonus can reach up to $25,000.
Job Description:This Surgical Technologist will perform a variety of tasks in an operating room that assist the surgical team. Key responsibilities include arranging sterile setup for surgical procedures, passing instruments, sponge and suture to surgeons and surgical assistants, preparing sterile supplies, assisting in cleanup of the operating room, checking placement and operation of equipment, and checking and restocking operating room. During surgical procedures, this individual may be responsible for special trays, graft materials, and recording patient data.
Responsibilities:- Ensure all medications are labeled and handed to surgeon according to established policies and procedures.
- Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
- Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment. Adjust and check equipment to ensure it is working properly.
- Pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants during surgery.
- Hold retractors or instruments, cut sutures, sponge or suction the operative site under the supervision of the surgeon, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.
- Assist in the preparation, care for, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis and apply dressings.
- Assist the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.
- Clean and restock the operating room after surgery.
- Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
To be successful in this role, you should have completed a program sponsored by a nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation and maintain certification or has completed an appropriate military training program. You should also have a strong understanding of aseptic technique and be able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
