Role Summary

The Chief Information Officer is responsible for overseeing and enhancing the efficient utilization of information technology across the organization. This role involves formulating technology strategies in partnership with other leadership figures and executing these strategies effectively. The CIO provides visionary leadership for the IT department and its projects, collaborating with operational and executive leaders to ensure technology aligns with operational objectives. A key responsibility is to safeguard IT systems and organizational data while balancing business requirements with effective risk management. The CIO also works closely with research leaders to maximize the use of technology in research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a high-performing IT team, ensuring effective communication, guidance, and resources. This includes recruiting, training, mentoring, and evaluating staff to meet safety and compliance standards.
  • Engage with institutional leaders to identify technological needs and ensure operational leaders have the necessary tools to achieve business objectives.
  • Stay informed about current and emerging technologies, acting as a resource and change agent to incorporate new solutions that enhance operational efficiency and support growth initiatives.
  • Ensure the cost-effective delivery of IT services, manage IT budgets, oversee technology procurement, and maintain vendor relationships while justifying technology investments.
  • Manage partnerships related to technology services, fostering strong relationships and resolving collaborative issues while ensuring adherence to service standards.
  • Oversee the implementation and functionality of critical applications, including electronic medical records and clinical support systems.
  • Ensure the security of the organization’s IT architecture, disaster recovery plans, and compliance with IT policies and procedures.
  • Guide software development processes, ensuring alignment with customer needs and maintaining efficiency, security, and scalability.
  • Develop and implement IT communication and training strategies to empower users in effectively utilizing available technology.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This role includes managing a team of 1-10 direct reports and overseeing 30-60 individuals within the IT department.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is required.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in healthcare or academic medicine as a senior IT leader, preferably in roles such as CTO, CSO, or CIO. Experience leading software development teams and familiarity with EPIC systems is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $250,000 - $371,000. National Jewish Health offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plans, and various voluntary benefits.
