Job Overview

Salary: $19.00/hour

The Facilities Technician is responsible for performing essential manual tasks related to the upkeep and repair of structures, grounds, and equipment within the facilities. This role includes the repair or modification of existing exhibits and the construction of new ones, following the guidance of the Facilities Supervisor or Director. The technician must be capable of meeting maintenance deadlines, collaborating effectively within a team, and working independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize a web-based work order management system.
  • Complete assigned work orders and preventative maintenance tasks, including but not limited to electrical troubleshooting, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and welding.
  • Operate power and hand tools, such as saws, drills, planers, and ladders.
  • Repair existing structures and exhibits as needed.
  • Engage in new construction projects while adhering to building codes.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively in team settings.
  • Communicate professionally with guests and staff.
  • Operate various equipment, including full-size trucks, dump trucks, golf carts, and snow removal machinery.
  • Adapt to outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Respond to emergencies and perform snow removal outside of regular hours.
  • Demonstrate computer proficiency, including email, Microsoft Office, internet navigation, and CMMS programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in a maintenance technician role.
  • Proficient in English communication, both verbal and written.
  • Possess a valid driver's license in good standing.
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
  • Availability for on-call duties as required.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Capability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform additional duties such as snow removal as assigned.
  • Ability to work at multiple locations as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with work order management systems.
  • Relevant trade certifications.
  • Massachusetts hoisting license and experience with heavy equipment operation.
