CNC Machinist Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled CNC Machinist to join our team at Schmiede Corp. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience operating 5-axis machines and a strong background in CNC machining.

• Set up and operate numerical control machines or machining centers to perform various functions, such as cutting, drilling, milling, reaming, boring, and broaching of metallic and nonmetallic pieces.
• Read and interpret blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences.
• Mount, align, and secure tooling, attachments, and work pieces on the machine.
• Load control media, such as tape, card, or disk, in the machine controller or enter commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from the database.
• Calculate and set machine controls to position the spindle in relation to the work piece and regulate factors such as cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
• Start the machine and monitor displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions.
• Stop the machine to change cutting tools and setup according to the required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications.
• Enter commands or manually adjust machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
• Operate the machine manually to perform non-automated functions and when automatic programming is faulty or the machine malfunctions.
• Discuss control media errors with the supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems.
• Communicate with the supervisor and leadman to receive instructions and coordinate activities with coworkers.
• Inspect and measure parts to maintain quality, including statistical process control charts when required.

• High school or equivalent and between 2 and 4 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship or a combination thereof.
• Minimum of 10 years of CNC Machinist experience required.
• Experience operating 5-axis machines.

The employee is subject to an industrial worksite including but not limited to: noise from operating machines, moving equipment, or moving machine parts; objects that may have sharp edges or burrs; machine shop-related chemicals that may require restricted handling and proper use of PPE.
