Position Overview

The Freight Handling Specialist is responsible for sorting and managing freight in and out of various transportation equipment, including over-the-road vehicles, containers, city trailers, and straight trucks. This role involves operating forklifts and pallet jacks to efficiently load and unload freight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely loads and unloads trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment while adhering to state, federal, and Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Utilizes dock tools to ensure secure and proper loading of freight, including the maintenance of straps, bars, air bags, cardboard, and dunnage.
  • Handles freight by loading, recouping, rewrapping, and stacking as necessary.
  • Confirms shipments by accurately reading labels and ensuring proper securing of freight for loading and unloading.
  • Adheres to established billing and quality control protocols to guarantee timely, claims-free, and cost-effective shipments.
  • Documents, reports, and processes any shortages or damages to freight.
  • Promotes and maintains a safe and tidy work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in warehouse, freight, dock, forklift, or pallet jack operations.
  • Forklift certification or hazmat training is a plus.
  • Ability to lift and move objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights.
Compensation

The pay rate for this position is $26.50 per hour, based on experience.
