About the Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join the FirstEnergy team as a Tax Planning Analyst. As a key member of the income tax accounting group, you will play a critical role in supporting the calculation of the income tax provision and preparing journal entries for monthly and quarterly closing.

You will be responsible for compiling and analyzing data necessary to support the preparation and filing of federal and state income tax returns, as well as regulatory reports and rate cases. Your attention to detail and analytical skills will be essential in reconciling various tax accounts and identifying areas for improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing various accounting and analytical tasks to support calculation of the income tax provision
  • Preparing journal entries for monthly and quarterly closing and documentation relating to financial reporting and internal control functions
  • Compiling and analyzing data necessary to support the preparation and filing of federal and state income tax returns
  • Compiling and analyzing data necessary to support the preparation and filing of various regulatory reports and/or rate cases
  • Reconciling various tax accounts as needed
  • Taking initiative to solve problems and bring issues to closure

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or comparable degree with Accounting minor or specialization, required
  • Minimum 0-2 years' work experience required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with SAP preferred but not required
  • Ability to follow established practices, procedures, and instructions, and produce accurate and timely work product
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to shifting priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently on special assignments as directed
