The Nursing Assistant serves as a caregiver to residents during scheduled work periods in a long-term care setting. This role provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN).
Key Responsibilities- Provides assistance with basic health care needs, including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and obtaining and recording vital signs.
- Assists residents with meals and snacks, provides water and supplements as appropriate, and creates a positive dining experience.
- Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and gathers vital signs, while maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Documents resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, behavior, activity, and dietary, and communicates changes to the charge nurse.
- Participates in departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed, and maintains all department-specific required certifications.
- May be required to drive a motor vehicle, subject to facility and state requirements.
- High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
- Minimum age of 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
- Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of date into the position.
- Satisfactorily completes yearly department-specific competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credits for each year.
- A minimum of 12 hours continuing education are required annually.
