Job Description

How you will change lives

As a Patient Care Technician (PCT) at US Renal Care, you will play a vital role in a collaborative team providing care and performing delegated treatment activities for patients. The PCT will operate under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Charge Nurse (CN) for patients experiencing renal failure.

What you'll be doing

Patient care. You will engage directly with patients to deliver safe, comfortable, and high-quality dialysis treatment. Responsibilities encompass gathering patient statistics before and after treatment, initiating treatment, monitoring patients throughout the process, concluding treatment, and collecting patient blood samples as per physician directives.

Technician Duties. You will prioritize quality by preparing machines for hemodialysis treatments, ensuring thorough cleaning and disinfection of machines post-treatment, and conducting safety checks while logging results for quality control, adhering to all protocols and regulations.

Safety and Quality. You will implement appropriate safety measures, including the use of personal protective equipment. Under the supervision of a Charge Nurse, you will comply with all company policies, procedures, and applicable state/federal laws and regulations. Participation in all mandatory staff meetings and continuing education offerings is expected.

What we're looking for
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A genuine desire to work in healthcare and support patients.
  • Prior healthcare experience in dialysis, phlebotomy, or as a CNA is advantageous.
  • Comfort with mixing acids and bicarbonate according to established protocols.
  • Ability to differentiate all primary colors.
Other requirements
  • Successful completion of the USRC training program approved by the Medical Director, demonstrating competency; this includes successful completion of the USRC training course in the theory and practice of hemodialysis within the designated timeframe.
  • CPR certification is required within the specified period or as mandated by state regulations.
  • Patient Care Technician certification must be obtained through a state certification program or a nationally recognized certification program within the specified timeframe and maintained in good standing thereafter. Specific state requirements may apply.

STATE SPECIFIC BOARD OF NURSING REQUIREMENTS


California
  • Must possess current Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) certificate from California Department of Public Health at the time of hire OR
  • Hired at USRC location recognized by the state of California as an approved dialysis technician training program and obtain California state certification (CHT) within the specified timeframe.
Maryland
  • Must possess current Certified Nursing Assistants -- Dialysis Technicians (CNA-DT) certificate from Maryland Board of Nursing OR
  • Hired at USRC location recognized by the state of Maryland as an approved dialysis technician training program and obtain Maryland CNA-DT certificate within the specified timeframe OR
  • Out-of-state applicants must have active BONENT certification and provide proof of initial application for CNA-DT certification.
New Mexico
  • Must have New Mexico dialysis technician certificate at the time of hire OR
  • Hired at USRC location recognized by the state of New Mexico as an approved dialysis technician training program and obtain New Mexico state certification within the specified timeframe OR
  • New Mexico certification of hemodialysis technician is required for out-of-state applicants with active state or national hemodialysis certification; must obtain New Mexico state certification prior to working as a Certified Hemodialysis Technician.
  • After the specified date, all initial applications for the certified hemodialysis technician will require a national hemodialysis technician certificate.
  • The applicant must submit proof of a valid national hemodialysis technician certificate from a recognized organization.
  • Hemodialysis technician students must have a current basic life support credential prior to and while the student has contact with patients.
OHIO
  • Must have Ohio dialysis technician intern certificate at the time of hire OR
  • Hired at USRC location recognized by the state of Ohio as an approved dialysis technician training program and submit application for Ohio dialysis technician intern certificate to the board within the specified timeframe.
  • Must obtain Ohio Board of Nursing Certificate (OCDT) within the specified timeframe after enrolling in the USRC OCDT program.
OREGON
  • Must possess current Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHDT) certificate from Oregon Public Health Division at the time of hire OR
  • Must obtain Oregon dialysis technician provisional certificate within the specified timeframe after successful completion of the training program and obtain Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHDT) certificate from Oregon Public Health Division within the specified timeframe. An Oregon Provisional Certification is valid for six months and can be renewed for one additional six-month period.
