Job Title: Program Attorney and Deputy Counsel

\

This position is based in Austin, Texas, at the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center (TMCEC). We are seeking a skilled attorney to fill the role of Program Attorney and Deputy Counsel.

\

The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals. They will also possess a proven work ethic, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.

\

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, managing, and implementing educational programs for judges, prosecutors, and court support personnel. This will include making presentations, serving as a panelist, and moderating at TMCEC programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Analysis: The candidate will analyze data to evaluate, plan, and improve programming and content.\
  • Needs Assessment: They will conduct needs assessments to ensure curriculum designs serve specific target populations.\
  • Curriculum Development: The candidate will facilitate curriculum development and implementation.\
  • Presentation Identification: They will identify and propose potential topics for presentations.\
  • Agenda Development: The candidate will develop and organize agendas and instructional content.\
  • Faculty Management: They will recruit, prepare, develop, and manage faculty.\
  • Technical Support: The candidate will provide technical support to judges, prosecutors, and court support personnel.\
  • Legislative Monitoring: They will monitor legislative actions, court decisions, judicial disciplinary actions, attorney general opinions, and other periodicals to evaluate the educational needs of municipal judges.\
  • Research and Writing: The candidate will research and write on legal topics.\
  • Publishing: They will draft and update publications for use by judges and court personnel.\
  • Edit Materials: The candidate will edit TMCEC print and online materials.\
  • Instructional Media: They will write and produce instructional media.\
  • Representations: The candidate will represent TMCEC at conferences, planning meetings, task forces, forums, affiliate organizations, and associations.\
  • Other Duties: They will perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.\

  • Travel Requirements: In-state travel is required.\
  • Licensure: The candidate must be a licensed attorney in the State of Texas.\

  • Teaching Experience: The candidate should have experience in teaching, instructional technology, adult education, technical writing, event planning, or project management.\
  • Familiarity with Law: They should have a fundamental understanding of procedural and substantive criminal law and the operations of Texas criminal courts.\
  • Government Experience: The candidate may have experience as a staff attorney, criminal law practitioner, government lawyer, or have a work history reflecting a commitment to public service.\

About the Position:

\

The salary for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Benefits include employer-paid health insurance, an employer contribution to a 403(b) plan, and a generous paid leave package (including annual and sick leave). This position is eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
