Medical Physicist Specialist

The Associate Medical Physicist position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medical equipment and imaging techniques. As a key member of the Inova Health System team, you will be responsible for investigating and evaluating new equipment, providing medical physics coverage, and collaborating with physicians and engineers to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain relationships with physicists in other practices to stay up-to-date on best practices and new technologies.
- Collaborate with physicians to ensure accurate patient dosages and equipment evaluation.
- Work with vendors to ensure that equipment meets specifications and regulations.
- Communicate with patients and the public about radiation exposure and medical procedures.
- Provide medical physics coverage for subspecialties such as radiation therapy and cardiac catheterization.
- Collaborate with engineers to design radiation shields for areas of the hospital that use ionizing radiation.
- Oversee acceptance testing of new or renovated medical equipment and imaging networks.
- Perform calculations and measurements to ensure the accuracy of new treatment imaging techniques.
- Review and verify new calibration protocols to ensure their impact on clinical applications.
- Investigate and evaluate new equipment and improvements to existing equipment to reduce costs and downtime.
- Stay up-to-date with clinical and dosimetric literature in the sub-specialty.
- Attend hospital committees as assigned, such as the Radiation Safety Committee.
- Maintain professional relationships with department directors and medical directors.
To be eligible for this position, you must have a Master's Degree in Physical Science and be eligible to take the American Board of Radiology certification. Additionally, you may be eligible to become a VA state inspector in the subject specialty.
