The Certified Surgical Technologist I is skilled in the roles of first or second scrub person, or assistant circulator, within a designated specialty area.

Responsibilities:
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
- Demonstrates expertise, competency, and skills in assisting with maintaining sterile fields, exhibiting aseptic techniques, and preparing surgical skin in accordance with established policies and standards of care.
- Possesses knowledge of instrumentation and supplies, ensuring proper setup and handling on the sterile field.
- Anticipates and addresses the needs of the surgeon, staff, and patients effectively.
- Understands the functions of Central Sterile Processing related to cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, wrapping, and storing instruments following appropriate guidelines.
- Familiar with standard precautions, personal protective equipment, and isolation protocols.
- Prepares and organizes all necessary equipment, supplies, and positioning aids based on established preference cards.
- Assists in preparing medications for administration on the operative field under the physician's direction.
- Engages in ongoing professional development and participates in activities that enhance Surgical Technology practice through knowledge sharing and networking.
- Assesses and selects teaching strategies that are appropriate for the patient's and their families' specific needs, including age, culture, gender, readiness to learn, and comprehension levels.
- Consults with relevant resources within the healthcare facility to provide specialized education.
- Demonstrates a commitment to patient and workplace safety by preventing errors, accidents, and infections, and promptly reporting any potential or actual concerns.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Graduation from a nationally accredited surgical technology program
Certification in surgical technology from a recognized certifying body (NBSTSA or NCCT)
Current basic life support (BLS) certification is required.
