Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team at GFL Environmental. As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for safely operating and maintaining various heavy equipment, including excavators, front loaders, and bulldozers, to manage waste and other materials at our facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy equipment to bale and load waste or other materials into trailers.
  • Perform daily inspection and maintenance checks on equipment.
  • Grease and lubricate equipment, check and add fluids as needed.
  • Steer and guide heavy equipment at assigned sites, using steering wheels, shifters, levers, buttons, and pedals.
  • Substitute for other operators as needed.
  • Clean trash from equipment tracks and gear mechanisms daily.
  • Communicate with coworkers using two-way radios.
  • Conform to all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain facility appearance and attend safety meetings.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED (desired but not required).
  • Forklift certification.
  • Ability to obtain Transfer Station/Landfill Operations Certification (if needed).

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste, and smell.
  • Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:

  • Constantly exposed to loud noise, humidity, outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Work in outdoor environment 100% of the time.
