Position: HVAC Utility Plant Operator

Overview: We are currently in search of an HVAC Utility Plant Operator possessing an OE2 or S2 license. This role is responsible for independently executing a wide array of tasks within the power plant environment. The position operates on a 3rd shift schedule, from 6 PM to 6 AM, following an alternating 3-day/4-day workweek.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts advanced operational duties to ensure the safe functioning of various power plant equipment, facilitating the efficient production of high-pressure steam, electrical power, and chilled water.
  • Regularly inspects the plant to monitor equipment operations and identify any irregularities in systems such as boilers, steam absorption chillers, electric chillers, and cooling towers.
  • Utilizes visual and auditory assessments to verify vendor and manufacturer calibrated settings, adhering to state and federal regulations.
  • Documents performance metrics on deficiency reports to maintain operational integrity.
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks, including the replacement of fan belts, valves, and gauges, as well as minor plumbing repairs.
  • Conducts chemical testing to manage water hardness levels effectively.
  • Maintains cleanliness of pumps and implements lockout/tagout procedures when necessary.
  • Compares logged deficiencies with control system preset points, making necessary adjustments for optimal equipment performance.
  • Ensures electrical production aligns with defined kilowatt measurements to reduce commercial power consumption.
  • Monitors the control system for production process control and performance, referencing established ranges set by vendors and regulatory standards.
  • Identifies and resolves equipment malfunctions through diagnostic procedures, collaborating with supervisors or external vendors as needed.
  • Oversees the energy management system for building environmental controls, recording critical data and coordinating repairs with appropriate personnel.
  • Handles general maintenance inquiries and directs them to the relevant trade worker, completing work orders as required.

Qualifications: A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a utility plant or industrial environment, with expertise in the operation, maintenance, and repair of high-pressure steam boilers, chillers, or other mechanical systems. A valid driver's license and an S2 or OE2 license are required.
