Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse to join our team at Christus Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with our providers to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional nursing care to patients, including administering treatments and medications as prescribed by providers.
  • Assist with the preparation of equipment and aid providers during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Observe, record, and report patients' condition and reaction to drugs or treatments to providers.
  • Oversee appointment bookings and ensure timely flow of patients.
  • Greets patients, obtains well-documented history and vitals, and prepares patients for physical exam.
  • May perform various tasks, including obtaining/record vital signs, performing initial assessment on patient, coordinating patient transfer to hospital and/or discharge, giving telephone orders, accepting telephone test results, performing telephone triage, calling in provider-approved prescription refills, specimen collection, and administering medications.
  • May perform additional tasks, including blood collection by lancet, pulse oximetry, incentive spirometry, suture and/or staple removal, ear irrigation, administering breathing treatment, giving allergy/insulin/immunization medications, giving intramuscular and/or subcutaneous injections, and administering IV push medications.
  • May make arrangements for patient testing and admissions.
  • May be required to have a working knowledge of ICD9, CPT, and HCPCS coding and managed care.
  • Responds to incoming telephone calls and calls in refills and prescriptions to pharmacy.
  • Per provider and/or established protocol, instructs patients and/or family with regard to medication and treatment and documents the same.
  • Maintains patient files, records, and other information in a professional manner following policies and procedures regarding documentation.
  • Ensures preparation of exam rooms, including re-stocking of treatment areas.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional licensure and affiliations.
  • Follows the CHRISTUS Health guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Uses oral and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas in a clear, positive manner that is consistent with the CHRISTUS Mission.
  • Maintains established CHRISTUS Health policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control.
  • Implements job responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the CHRISTUS Mission and Code of Ethics and supportive of CHRISTUS Health's cultural diversity objectives.
  • Supports and adheres to CHRISTUS Health Service Guarantee.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Requirements:

Education/Skills

  • Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing or vocational nursing.

Experience

  • Previous medical office experience preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Valid state license to practice nursing.
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
