As a **Lead Fiber Optic Splicer**, you will play a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic networks. This position requires expertise in splicing fiber optic cables and ensuring robust connections that facilitate high-speed data transmission.
Key Responsibilities:- Splicing and Termination: Utilize specialized tools to splice and terminate fiber optic cables, ensuring optimal performance and minimal signal loss.
- Testing and Diagnostics: Perform tests on fiber optic systems to identify signal degradation and other technical issues. Employ tools such as optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs) for effective troubleshooting.
- Installation: Execute the installation of fiber optic cables in various settings, including underground and aerial environments, ensuring proper alignment and secure placement.
- Documentation: Keep comprehensive records of splicing, testing, and installation activities, noting any modifications or issues encountered.
- Safety Protocols: Adhere to safety regulations to maintain a secure working environment, particularly when operating at heights or in confined spaces.
- Collaboration: Partner with engineers, project managers, and fellow technicians to guarantee that fiber optic installations comply with technical specifications and project standards.
- Valid driving record.
- Ability to maintain and inspect equipment for optimal performance.
- Experience in loading and securing materials for transport.
- Familiarity with the standard 12 color code system for fiber optics.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficient in the use and upkeep of optical splicing and testing equipment (OTDR, OLTS, VFL, OPM, OPI/Traffic Identifier).
- Experience with hot cuts and communication with testing and maintenance teams.
- Understanding of various fiber architectures, including DWDM and CWDM technologies.
- Demonstrated leadership skills to guide workflow and ensure high-quality outcomes.
- Knowledge of NESC, OSHA, and relevant local regulations.
- Able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Capable of operating hydraulic aerial lifts and ladders.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs as necessary.
- Maintain organized workspaces and detailed work records.
- Willingness to work in diverse weather conditions.
- Availability for various shifts and on-call duties.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and wire diagrams.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, along with basic computer proficiency.
- Establish safety perimeters using appropriate signage and barriers.
