About the Role

Tenet-AZ Region is seeking a highly skilled Surgical First Assistant to join our team in Goodyear, Arizona.

Job Summary

The Surgical First Assistant will perform specific tasks according to individual surgeon preference, utilizing appropriate techniques to ensure optimal patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review permits to confirm procedures and special needs
  • Confirm procedures with surgeons and determine necessary equipment
  • Assist in moving and positioning patients, inserting and removing Foley catheters, and draping patients according to surgeon guidelines
  • Provide exposure, retraction of tissue and organs for optimal visualization
  • Maintain hemostasis through direct pressure, use of surgical instruments, and application of hemostatic agents
  • Make incisions, use electrocautery, clamp, ligate, and cut tissue per surgeon's directive
  • Dissect common femoral arteries and bifurcation, as well as other arteries and veins
  • Maintain integrity of the sterile field and assist with resuscitation during cardiac arrest or other life-threatening events
  • Perform endoscopic and open vein harvest, including skin incision
  • Start I.V.s and arterial lines, select and place x-rays, and place appropriate splints or casts
Requirements
  • Completion of a formal Non-Physician Surgical Assistant program, accredited by CAAHEP
  • One year experience as a certified surgical technician - first assist (preferred)
  • CFSA - Certified Surgical First Assist or CSA - Certified Surgical Assistant certification
