Job Title: Behavior Intervention Specialist

Join the Vallivue School District team as a Behavior Intervention Specialist, supporting students with emotional, physical, and mental disabilities in a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.

Job Summary

This role is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher and/or special education teacher in achieving the goals and objectives of each child's Individual Education Plan (IEP) through individual, small group, or whole group instruction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tutorial help to students, reinforcing material and skills using various methods as directed by certified staff.
  • Assist students in locating instructional materials and starting assignments.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material and skills introduced by the teacher.
  • Administer informal assessments to accommodate students' specific modifications at the direction of a certified teacher.
  • Assist with large group activities, such as drill and practice, reading aloud, and storytelling.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist students in the library or media center.
  • Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and makeup work as assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  • Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests as recommended by the teacher.
Requirements
  • At least four years of college-level coursework and a Bachelor's Degree in education or a human services-related field.
  • At least 1040 hours of documented experience working with children.
  • A RBT or HI certificate.
  • Not listed on the Medicaid Exclusionary List.
  • Previous aide or teaching experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and push and pull up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to implement crisis plans and physical restraint as a last resort when a student is in imminent danger to themselves or others.

Evaluation

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the classroom teacher and/or special education teacher and/or the director of special services in conformance with applicable federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy.
