About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented HVAC/Energy Management Technician Trainee to join our team at the University of South Carolina. As a key member of our facilities energy management team, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe, productive, and cost-effective planned and corrective maintenance program for facility building automated HVAC control systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient environment by performing routine inspections and verifying potential causes of issues.
  • Participate in reactive and preventative maintenance on devices and equipment, including pneumatic, electric, and direct digital controls.
  • Assist in operating and maintaining the campus Direct Digital Control (DDC) Central Energy Management System (EMS) under guidance.
  • Monitor computer systems, conduct diagnostics, and respond to alarms.
  • Investigate and address field control equipment issues, communicating with supervisors and vendors.
  • Support the coordination of the Johnson Controls Metasys Energy Management System and HVAC systems.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, analysis, distribution, and filing of various data reports.
  • Use data to assess equipment functioning and investigate problem areas.
  • Communicate effectively with campus customers, supervisors, Work Management Center, Area Maintenance personnel, and contractors.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including maintaining daily time sheets and work orders.
Requirements

We are looking for a candidate who is currently enrolled in an HVAC training program or has equivalent experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of HVAC control systems and a willingness to learn and grow with our team.
