Role: Lead Systems Administrator for Missile Defense Space Enterprise Architecture

Key Responsibilities:

The Lead Systems Administrator for Missile Defense Space Enterprise Architecture plays a critical role in supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) under the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership, direction, and oversight for a team of skilled Linux and Windows system administrators focused on the Missile Defense Space Enterprise Architecture (MDSEA).
  • Acting as the program Subject Matter Expert (SME) in system administration, encompassing operating systems, hardware/software integration, virtualization, and containerization.
  • Possessing a strong understanding of both Windows and Linux operating systems to effectively delegate tasks within a dynamic team environment.
  • Coordinating support with other internal program elements to facilitate additional System Administrator assistance as required.
  • Collaborating closely with engineers to deliver high-quality, innovative system administration services to government clients.
  • Working with system engineers to identify and define requirements for new systems or modifications, developing designs, and implementing and testing solutions.
  • Ensuring daily system monitoring, backup, and application upgrades to maintain optimal system performance.
  • Overseeing system software installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and cybersecurity measures in accordance with established policies and service level agreements.
  • Engaging with hardware and software vendors and participating in vendor-required activities, such as infrastructure reviews.
  • Assisting with Systems Administrator tasks as mission needs dictate.
  • Developing and maintaining system administration plans, procedures, processes, and configuration documentation.
  • Creating training plans to develop and mentor System Administrators.
  • Exhibiting excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate effective communication with team members and stakeholders.
  • Being available to report to Schriever SFB within 2 hours for mission surge support events as necessary.

Qualifications:

This position is open at multiple levels based on the candidate's experience and qualifications. Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:

  • High School Diploma (or GED) with 14 years of general experience.
  • Associate's degree with 12 years of general experience.
  • Bachelor's degree with 10 years of general experience.
  • Master's degree with 8 years of general experience.

Additionally, candidates must possess:

  • A minimum of 8 years of specialized experience in a computer operations environment, performing systems administration for both Windows and Linux systems.
  • At least 3 years of leadership or management experience.
  • Experience with virtual environments using VMware.
  • A current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification or higher (e.g., CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+, CND, or SSCP).
  • A current DoD Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret with SCI.

Desired Skills:

  • Proven experience in leading and managing technical teams.
  • Experience administering a Red Hat Linux environment with Red Hat Identity Management (IdM) Servers.
  • Experience managing Windows Active Directory and Group Policy Objects.
  • Experience conducting log analysis for root cause assessments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of virtualization infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes technologies (RKE, OpenShift).
  • DoD networking experience with classified data networks and a strong understanding of red/black concepts and IA compliance.

Compensation: This position is expected to offer an annual salary range of $146,300 - $171,300, depending on experience, education, and relevant certifications.
