The nurse is responsible for the quality of nursing services provided by themselves and those under their supervision.

The position requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data and deliver care tailored to the physical and developmental needs of assigned patients.


Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Completion of an accredited nursing program.
Credentials:

Must hold a current, valid RN license in the state of practice, a temporary RN license, or compact RN licensure for the current state. BLS certification is mandatory. Additional certifications or continuing education may be necessary based on the area of practice.

Physical Demands:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently. Must possess physical agility and quick reaction time to address unexpected patient care needs. Adequate hearing and visual acuity, including color vision, are required. Fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, and the ability to grasp and handle objects are essential.

Must be able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients with mobility and may need to lift up to 50 pounds. Standard precautions must be utilized due to potential exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Effective communication skills through reading, writing, and speaking are necessary. Periodic use of a personal computer may be required.


Essential Functions:
Conducts comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs. Reviews patient history and physical assessments with patients and families, ensuring timely completion. Evaluates available information from other healthcare team members and analyzes diagnostics and laboratory data, reporting any abnormal results to physicians and relevant caregivers.

Develops a care plan, including discharge planning, based on assessment data and input from patients, families, and the healthcare team. Establishes realistic and measurable goals in collaboration with patients and families, considering their physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs.

Implements the care plan through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities. Provides care in accordance with physician orders and nursing plans, adhering to policies, standards of care, and regulatory requirements.

Delegates appropriately and supervises nursing care provided by other licensed nurses and personnel. Ensures continuity of care by effectively communicating patient status to other caregivers. Evaluates patient and family responses to care and education, revising the care plan as necessary. Assesses patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the healthcare team, and evaluates the effectiveness of patient education.


Documents all aspects of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring legibility, timeliness, and compliance with policy. Documentation must reflect objective and subjective data, nursing interventions, and patient responses to treatment, including accurate and timely notation of physician orders.

Provides care based on the best available evidence and may engage in research activities within clinical practice. Participates in shared leadership within the unit or facility. Engages in the education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors. Supports the growth of others through mentoring and precepting when appropriate.

Contributes to societal well-being by striving for excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care. Actively participates in initiatives aimed at improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, which may include involvement in professional organizations.
