Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Superintendent for the Edinburg Structure and Bridge section. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for planning and directing the structure and bridge repair, maintenance, and replacement program for a geographical area consistent with established safety standards, VDOT specifications and procedures, and equipment operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and direct the structure and bridge repair, maintenance, and replacement program.
  • Ensure compliance with established safety standards, VDOT specifications and procedures, and equipment operational standards.
  • Manage supervisory and crew personnel to achieve program objectives.
  • Develop and implement budgets, cost estimates, and inventory management plans.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to resolve citizen complaints and other issues.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence to communicate program progress and results.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Considerable knowledge of structure and bridge maintenance methods, procedures, practices, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles, policies, and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and interpret bridge and structure plans and specifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of valid CDL and DOT medical card.
  • Experience preparing cost estimates, developing budgets, tracking costs, and preparing project reports.
  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with procurement, inventory, and equipment management and computer programs.
  • Experience in maintenance and construction of bridges, culverts, and other highway structures.

Working Conditions

This position is designated as essential and may require work outside of normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
