Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Housekeeping and Laundry Assistant to join our team at Sheldon Meadows Assisted Living Center. As a key member of our housekeeping staff, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our resident apartments and common areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Thoroughly clean and sanitize resident apartments, including dusting, vacuuming, and washing windows.
  • Empty resident waste baskets and check for any lost items.
  • Clean and sanitize common areas, including the dining room, beverage area, lobby, and community room.
  • Dust and polish furniture, lamps, and fixtures.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, and floors.
  • Check furniture for debris and report any damage to the supervisor.
  • Empty trash and recyclables and properly dispose of them.
  • Operate cleaning equipment and follow safety protocols.
  • Sort and launder resident personal items, including bed linens, towels, and clothing.
  • Fold and hang laundry according to resident preference.
  • Iron clothing as needed.
  • Return laundered items to residents promptly.
Requirements
  • Positive and respectful attitude toward the elderly.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow directions in English.
  • Maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.
  • Experience in healthcare, hotel housekeeping, or laundry is preferred.
  • Ability to pass a state-mandated criminal background screening and random drug testing.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Able to stand, bend, twist, turn, stoop, squat, sit, kneel, pull, push, and walk long distances on hard surfaces for extended periods.
  • Able to perform physically repetitive work.
  • Able to tolerate exposure to cold and hot temperatures.
  • Able to work with strong smells and chemicals.
  • Able to operate equipment such as a vacuum cleaner, washing machine, clothes dryer, carpet cleaner, and steam iron.
  • Ability to move furniture and boxes.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with residents, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to comprehend written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Emotional stability to handle resident care needs, including chronic illness, challenging behaviors, dementia-related issues, and death of residents.
