Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Health Law Unit's vital Medical-Legal Partnership with Grady Health System.
  • Collaborate closely with medical professionals to identify patients requiring civil legal aid and provide direct legal services to those in need.
  • Conduct thorough client intake processes, offering referrals, advice, brief service, or representation across a range of civil legal matters directly affecting clients' health. This includes public benefits, health insurance access, appropriate support services, disability rights, housing concerns (both poor conditions and loss of housing), end-of-life planning, family law, and consumer law.
  • Engage in regular outreach and educational initiatives for both patients and medical providers.

Qualifications:

  • A valid Georgia bar license is essential. Applicants should possess a minimum of 2 years of legal practice experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including strong legal writing and oral advocacy abilities, are crucial, along with a dedicated work ethic.
  • The ability to thrive both independently and as part of a team, demonstrate adaptability, eagerness to learn, openness to feedback, and a genuine appreciation for diversity are essential.
  • A demonstrated commitment to public service, participation in law school clinics or trial advocacy courses, prior experience working with low-income individuals and/or those facing serious health conditions, and knowledge of health and poverty law are highly valued.
  • Creativity, a history of innovation, and proficiency in languages other than English are highly regarded.
