About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician Specialist to join our team at Ochsner Health System. As a Pharmacy Technician Specialist, you will play a critical role in maintaining and improving pharmacy services for our assigned areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist pharmacists and other technicians in maintaining an efficient medication distribution system to provide safe and efficient patient care.
  • Prepare accurate and timely medications, including chemotherapy and potentially hazardous substances, utilizing aseptic techniques and pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Operate and maintain specialized pharmacy equipment, including IV safety software, barcode software, Cadd Pump, and automated drug dispensing technology.
  • Chart all scheduled maintenance to ensure sterility according to protocol.
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and terminal cleaning of the IV room.
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, and adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a pharmacy technician training program.
  • 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Registered with the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy and in possession of a work permit.
  • One year of college or completion of a para-professional pharmacy training program, or Certified Pharmacy Technician Licensure or National Certification, Completion of a sterile product preparation certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Working knowledge of pharmaceutical mathematics.
  • Working knowledge of sterile technique and aseptic technique proficiency.
  • Working knowledge of safety guidelines for handling chemotherapy.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
