About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician Specialist to join our inpatient pharmacy team at Ochsner Health System. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in maintaining and improving pharmacy services for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist pharmacists and other technicians in maintaining an efficient medication distribution system to ensure safe and effective patient care.
  • Prepare and deliver sterile admixture products, such as intravenous solutions, chemotherapy, and bulk manufactured products, using aseptic techniques and proper pharmaceutical procedures.
  • Operate and maintain specialized pharmacy equipment, including IV safety software and barcode software.
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and terminal cleaning of the IV room to ensure a sterile environment.
  • Adapt behavior to meet the specific needs of our patients, including respect for privacy and effective communication.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 6 months of experience as a Pharmacy Technician required.
  • Current Pharmacy Technician Certification issued by the Board of Pharmacy in the state of practice required.
  • Sterile Product Preparation Certification required (or 5 years of IV Production experience in lieu of certification).

Physical and Environmental Demands

The physical demands of this role include exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The incumbent will work in a patient care area and may be exposed to blood, body fluids, and tissue.
