About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Health Physicist to join our team at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. As a key member of our Radiation Safety and Security Division, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe use of radioactive materials and preventing radiation-related hazards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct complex licensing actions involving radioactive material and serve as a lead inspector to plan, conduct, report, and integrate findings associated with radiation protection inspections of varied facilities using byproduct, source, and/or special nuclear materials.
  • Investigate and evaluate the most difficult occurrences with radiological safety significance.
  • Perform a wide variety of lead duties associated with inspection of facilities using byproduct, source, and/or special nuclear materials.
  • Review license applications for all uses of byproduct, source, and special nuclear material other than nuclear power production, including the most complex, sensitive, unprecedented, and varied applications involving substantial potential radiation hazards and difficult safety analyses, complex operations, and significant environmental considerations.
  • Initiate enforcement action with regional management approval when inspection findings indicate a significant violation of the license or NRC rules and regulations.
  • Prepare individual reports and coordinate team reports of inspection findings.
  • Serve as a mentor and coach in the development of new inspectors, providing guidance to new employees and inspectors undergoing the qualification process.
Requirements
  • Qualification under any appendix in Inspection Manual Chapter (IMC) 1245, 1246, or 1248 is required.
  • Additional qualification under IMC 1248 Appendix A or B is preferred.
  • This is a Drug Testing position.
