Key Responsibilities- Use the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care.
- Include patients and families in planning and implementing care, and develop and maintain a therapeutic relationship throughout the healthcare continuum.
- Anticipate and recognize significant changes in patient condition, status, and need for care, and take appropriate actions when changes occur.
- Implement strategies to reduce patient risk and increase patient safety, and assess patient and family readiness to learn and individualize the approach as necessary.
- Actively coordinate the discharge plan utilizing an interdisciplinary approach, and apply evidence-based practice to deliver patient care.
- Provide ongoing evaluation of patient, team, and unit outcomes, and take appropriate action when changes are needed.
- Support shared governance activities and initiatives to improve processes and patient outcomes, and demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills.
- Promote collaboration among healthcare team members, and assume a leadership role in the care team and delegate appropriately to unlicensed personnel.
- Promote a culture of safety through identifying threats to patient safety and intervening to prevent patient harm, and report patient safety events and near misses in a timely manner.
- Apply ethical decision making, demonstrate respect and understanding for peers, and participate as an effective member of the patient care team to formulate an integrated, unbiased, individualized approach to care.
- Participate in quality/process improvement initiatives to improve the functions of the department and the patient care experience, and participate in professional activities which contribute to personal professional development and the development of others.
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing, and typically requires 1 year of experience in clinical nursing.
- Proficient computer skills, use of electronic mail and electronic medical records systems, and excellent communication (written and verbal), listening and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively make critical, independent decisions, and excellent organization, prioritization and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrates time management skills with an ability to multi-task and prioritize in an environment with frequent interruptions, and demonstrates coordination, collaboration, delegation and team building skills.
The Registered Nurse will work in a fast-paced healthcare environment, and must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday. The team member must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, and lift up to 20 lbs. over the head. The team member must also be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force, and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
The Registered Nurse may be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease, and must wear protective clothing and equipment as necessary. The team member must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
