Job Summary

Under the guidance of a senior technician, performs a variety of duties related to the installation, calibration, repair, and maintenance of electrical, electronic, and mechanical biomedical equipment, adhering to manufacturer specifications and established preventative maintenance procedures. Documents all work performed.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Troubleshoots and repairs biomedical and laboratory equipment and related systems, ensuring correct operation.
  2. Performs preventative maintenance, electrical safety checks, and equipment calibration on a routine basis, in accordance with relevant regulations.
  3. Receives new equipment, performs acceptance checks, delivers to and/or installs equipment in departments, and provides customer training on proper operations and potential hazardous or safety issues.
  4. Ensures upgrades, modifications, and/or health device alerts are properly handled and resolved to improve patient/staff safety or equipment performance.
  5. Provides resource support to customers, liaises with outside resources as necessary, and communicates the clinical value, use, and technology of equipment to customers.
  6. Participates in job-related seminars, service schools, and AAMI meetings, and provides inservice and cross-training to other biomedical staff.
  7. Assesses safety control implications and takes appropriate action, performing follow-up to ensure closure.
  8. Performs nitrous oxide scanning as required.
  9. Ensures timely completion and documentation of preventative maintenance, and informs supervisors about overall status, problems, and concerns.
Requirements

Successful completion of an on-the-job training program or one to two years of experience as a Junior Biomedical Equipment Technician. Associates degree in biomedical or general electronics, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Post-high school coursework in anatomy and physiology. Drivers license (in locations where applicable). Demonstrated technical proficiency to service levels of equipment required by Junior Biomedical Equipment Technician. Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, change management, decision making, customer service, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, project management, quality management, results orientation, teamwork, and written communication.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in PC applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database.
