Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Office Assistant to join our team at Southern Ohio Medical Center. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing clerical duties associated with patient registration, tracking, and logging patient visits. They will also ensure that all managed care patients receive proper pre-certification/authorization prior to their appointment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine registration of patients, ensuring patient information is updated, including address changes and insurance updates.
  • Verify insurance eligibility by obtaining copies of patients' insurance cards, ensuring the accuracy of the registration forms.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of all computer fields, including demographics, insurance screens, and insurance companies.
  • Answer multi-line phones and schedule appointments.
  • Collect patient payments and maintain a balanced cash drawer.
  • Schedule referrals and outpatient testing/procedures.
  • Register new patients from referrals and contact patients' referring providers with appointment information.
  • Verify insurance benefits and obtain proper authorization and certification for appointments and procedures.
  • Register inpatients from billing census sheets.
  • Collaborate with the Physician Billing Department to resolve billing issues.
  • Assist in the coordination of care for patients in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team to meet the healthcare needs of patients.
  • Cross-trained to collect and document patient vitals, chief complaints, pain assessment, and past medical history.
  • Cross-trained to perform pre-cleaning, decontamination, and transport instruments that have been used on patients appropriately.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required.
  • BLS within 90 days of hire required.
  • Medical office and computer experience preferred.
