Position Summary
The Oncology Nurse Coordinator is a professional registered nurse with specialized oncology knowledge, providing personalized support to patients, families, and caregivers. This role is essential in navigating the healthcare system, offering education and resources to ensure informed decision-making and timely access to quality care throughout the cancer care continuum.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including nurse triage and scheduling staff.
- Facilitate the acquisition of necessary medical records and imaging for patient evaluations.
- Manage orders as directed by physicians, including laboratory tests and imaging studies.
- Ensure all patients have appropriate follow-up appointments and care plans.
- Assist with prior authorizations and insurance-related paperwork.
- Coordinate chemotherapy schedules and provide education on treatment protocols.
- Support symptom management and triage patient concerns effectively.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Certification: Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Bone Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN) preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of four years in an oncology setting.
- Licensure: Current, unencumbered RN license in North Carolina.
- Certification: BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and electronic health record systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.
