Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Physician Assistant to join our team at UTHealth Houston. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide advanced medical care to patients in a surgical setting, working closely with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct complex patient assessments and provide appropriate treatment under the direction of a surgeon.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures and manage pre-operative and post-operative patients in coordination with the supervising physician.
  • Utilize advanced assessment skills to anticipate complex patient problems specific to surgery and communicate information to supervising/attending physicians.
  • Assist in collecting patient histories, performing physical examinations, and providing episodic care or problem-oriented care under the supervision of a physician.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, monitor treatment programs, and provide guidance and instruction to patients on preventive health care or postsurgical care.
  • Assist physicians in formulating therapeutic decisions and enter chart documentation for review and counter signature by the physician.
  • Prepare and care for supplies and equipment, respond to emergency situations, and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Current Texas Licensure as a Physician Assistant
  • Current Physician Assistant certification issued by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or specialty required by department
  • Proficient in the use of medical and surgical instruments and equipment required by work
  • Master's degree as Physician Assistant or Bachelor's degree with at least two years of professional experience in the role
