Job Overview:
The Senior Physical Therapist is responsible for overseeing the management of physical therapy services for members, working under the guidance of the Rehabilitation Manager.
This role emphasizes adherence to compliance standards and the Principles of Responsibility, ensuring the confidentiality of information, safeguarding organizational assets, and acting with integrity. The position requires reporting any non-compliance and following all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Kaiser Permanente's policies.
Regional leaders are tasked with effective communication, implementation, and monitoring of compliance practices within their departments.
In addition to meeting technical qualifications, the role requires a commitment to demonstrating service behaviors aligned with the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo and the organization's mission, as well as supporting specific departmental initiatives.
The Senior Physical Therapist must consistently exhibit the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to deliver exceptional and culturally sensitive service to members, colleagues, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Takes on all duties outlined in the Physical Therapist II job description. + Delivers direct patient care through various modalities, including in-person, telephonic, and video consultations. + Provides mentorship and guidance to Physical Therapy staff in both general practice and specialized areas. + Conducts educational sessions for physical therapists, both formally and informally, focusing on their specialties at local and regional levels. + Assists in the creation and execution of innovative clinical practice models aimed at enhancing member care. + Serves as a consultant for staff regarding member management in their specialty area, facilitating ongoing professional development. + Evaluates staff competencies and identifies training needs within their specialty. + Provides high-level patient care, particularly for complex cases, while leading departmental initiatives. + Offers clinical leadership and direction to junior staff members. + Manages a significant caseload, including those with intricate needs in their specialty. + Supports the Lead Therapist/Rehabilitation Manager as required and fills in during their absence. + May provide coverage in other facilities within the region when necessary. + Performs additional related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience + A minimum of five (5) years of full-time experience in the relevant specialty is required.
Education + Graduate of an accredited physical therapy program with a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in physical therapy or an equivalent foreign-trained degree.
+ Completion of a postgraduate degree from an accredited institution with a focus on a specialty relevant to Physical Therapy.
Entry-level or transitional degrees are not acceptable, or completion of an APTA or AAOMPT approved fellowship/residency, or certification from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) in a specialty area (OCS, NCS, SCS, etc.), or possession of a certification relevant to Kaiser Permanente.
License, Certification, Registration + This position requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state must be obtained prior to hire, with additional credentials from secondary states required post-hire. + Physical Therapist License (Maryland) within 6 months of hire + Physical Therapist License (Virginia) within 6 months of hire + Physical Therapist License (District of Columbia) within 6 months of hire + Physical Therapy Direct Access Certification (Virginia) within 6 months of hire + PECOS Enrollment within 1 month of hire + Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association +National Provider Identifier Additional Requirements:
+ The role is focused on the Permanente member population and is clinically oriented. + Demonstrates leadership and problem-solving capabilities within the clinic and for members. + Exhibits professional behavior consistent with established criteria. + Engages in project management, teaching, and mentoring roles. + Shows evidence of involvement in staff development and mentoring initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Involvement in teaching physical therapy-related health education classes. + Active participation in the supervision and orientation of volunteers within the Physical Therapy Department. + Engagement in community activities and member education at least twice a year, which may include teaching health education classes and participating in health fairs. + Knowledge of or practice in at least 75% of PT clinical competencies is preferred.
