Plant Manager Job Description

This role oversees the daily operations, leadership, and management of a manufacturing plant. The Plant Manager reports to the Head of Global Operations and regularly updates on plant performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure a safe working environment and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintain product quality and customer satisfaction through efficient order fulfillment.
  • Continuously improve manufacturing processes and management methods to enhance plant performance and workflow efficiency.
  • Oversee plant engineering and maintenance, including equipment and facilities.
  • Manage inventory and materials, ensuring optimal supply chain efficiency.
  • Develop and implement capital plans to drive business growth.
  • Manage overall budget, spending, and headcount, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Lead and develop salaried staff and hourly employees within the plant, fostering a positive work environment.
Requirements:
  • A college degree in Engineering or Business is typically required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of plant management experience in industrial, fast-paced manufacturing and operations is necessary.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a unionized environment, including union negotiations.
  • Well-rounded operations management experience, including a deep understanding of operations tactics, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Knowledge of production processes, raw materials, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making ability, with a track record of success.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, with a high degree of creativity and latitude.
  • Ability to set and communicate clear expectations and directives to manufacturing staff.
  • Results-driven, analytical, self-motivated, and detail-oriented, with the ability to identify alternative solutions to complex problems.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills, as this role will interface with executive-level management and large customers.
