Job Summary

The Network Administrator plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and performance of Samford University's data networks. This position requires a strong understanding of networking media, including optical, and the ability to troubleshoot network problems using log files, sniffers, and other diagnostic tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and maintain both wired and wireless networking equipment
  • Perform routine network maintenance tasks, including upgrades and troubleshooting
  • Contribute to the daily operation of the data networks, including activities such as responding to network problems, programming network infrastructure devices, and analyzing and optimizing network performance and security
  • Communicate and coordinate with other Technology Services groups and the Technology Services Help Desk staff
Requirements
  • AA/AS degree in computer science or two years of related networking experience
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, and IP troubleshooting tools such as ping, traceroute, and netstat
  • Ability to implement basic LANs/WANs and associated systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • BA or BS degree in a technical discipline such as Engineering or Computer Science
  • Three or more years of experience in a large network environment
  • Knowledge of OS/NOS/IOS/NX-OS
  • NOC or high volume call-center experience
