Conservation Easement Specialist

This new full-time position reports to the Director of Conservation Programs and works closely with land acquisition, farmland, and land management staff as part of a cohesive team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts field visits, taking photos, creating maps, and writing narrative reports to document existing conditions for new farmland and habitat conservation easements.
- Conducts annual monitoring field visits to existing conservation easements, talking with current landowners and documenting current conditions and any changes.
- Built relationships with private landowners and community partners through regular communications.
- Creates outreach materials focused on farmland and land management topics to share with conservation easement landowners.
- Supports Genesee Land Trust staff on land management, program, and event projects as needed.
Requirements:
- Strong interest in Genesee Land Trust's mission, the outdoors, and local land conservation.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on teams and with colleagues with diverse backgrounds.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience reading maps with attention to detail.
- Willing to learn on the job and ask questions as needed.
- Ability to represent Genesee Land Trust in a friendly and positive way in interactions with landowners, neighbors, partners, and community members.
- Familiarity with conservation easements and surveys, a plus.
- Familiarity with agriculture and ecology of western New York, a plus.
- Must have a valid driver's license and personal vehicle for travel around the region (mileage reimbursed).
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time (traversing up to 8 miles/day on uneven terrain).
Location:
Genesee Land Trust Office, Rochester, NY. Potential is for full-time onsite or a hybrid schedule of remote/onsite on a weekly basis.
