We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Accountant to join our finance team in the New York office. As a key member of our accounting team, you will be responsible for maintaining and controlling the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform monthly general accounts analysis, including comparisons to forecasted results and trended results.
- Reconcile general account balances, including bank statements, fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
- Prepare and post journal entries, maintaining accurate records and reconciling accounts.
- Review general ledger expense coding for sales/use tax compliance and budgeting purposes.
- Process monthly expense allocations, accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed assets depreciation, and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries.
- Prepare and analyze monthly budget/forecast to actual variance reports.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports, including financial statements, budget performance, weekly/monthly partner packages, and bank surveys/covenants.
- Assist in maintaining the Fixed Asset and associated depreciation schedules on the FAS Software System.
- Protect the organization's integrity by maintaining confidentiality of firm and client information.
- Train to act as a backup for other functions within the Accounting Department.
- Perform ad hoc analyses and projects as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in accounting, preferably in a law firm.
- Knowledge of Accounting software, such as Elite/SAP.
- Highly skilled in the use of Excel Spreadsheets.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload to meet tight deadlines.
- Attention to detail and good record-keeping skills.
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with other teams.
- High level of interpersonal skills with demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to clearly communicate issues to all levels of management.
