Position Summary

The Family Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting incarcerated fathers and their families within the community. This position supports the full-time DOC Family Support Specialist at the Family Connections Center. Daily responsibilities involve direct interaction with incarcerated individuals while ensuring security protocols are maintained.

Work Environment: Family Connections Center

Role Type: Family Support Specialist, funded through ongoing support

Work Schedule: Flexible hours, 35 – 40 hours per week, primarily evenings

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in child development, family studies, social services, psychology, sociology, or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of relevant experience.
  • An Associate's degree in the aforementioned fields with at least three years of experience in Corrections, demonstrating familiarity with child development and family support.
  • Completion of a criminal background check and certification as a New Hampshire Department of Corrections Volunteer is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the organization and efficient operation of the Family Connections Center.
  • Oversee and assess video visitation sessions between incarcerated parents and their children, providing coaching for parents post-visit.
  • Facilitate support groups and lead educational classes for program participants.
  • Provide administrative support as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and officials to maximize the effectiveness of the Family Connections Center.
  • Participate in relevant meetings and training sessions as time allows.
  • Manage the distribution of audiobooks and literature to the children of incarcerated parents.
