Position Summary
The Injection Molding Engineer will oversee the Manufacturing Product Development Plan for assigned Full Lamp Programs. This role is crucial in ensuring the reliability and manufacturability of products, taking into account lamp assembly, molded and coated component processing, and the sourcing of purchased parts. The engineer will also manage timelines and manufacturing capital, including tooling costs.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and report on the efficiency and scrap rates of assigned programs, maintaining an open issues list with corrective actions to enhance performance.
- Coordinate pre-production activities with Materials and Operations to ensure that tool trials and assembly builds align with project deliverables.
- Manage purchased component deliverables in collaboration with the Purchasing team.
- Facilitate solutions related to manufacturing engineering and quality assurance.
- Temporarily address organizational gaps to resolve outstanding issues.
- Engage in product development from inception to manufacturing launch, including participation in DFMEAs.
- Interpret customer expectations through effective Program Management.
Education and Knowledge:
- Bachelor's or College Degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven understanding of manufacturing processes in the automotive lighting sector.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication abilities to convey technical specifications and issues for solution facilitation.
- Strong grasp of organizational systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing capabilities.
- Able to lead and mentor team members.
- 3-5 years of experience in automotive systems or a similar manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with maintenance and tooling activities, product design, SAE standards, quality, and production systems.
- Experience with Core Tools (APQP, SPC, MSA, FMEA & PPAP), Control Plans/Process Flows, and Root Cause Analysis/Practical Problem Solving is preferred.
