We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Deputy Sheriff to join our team at the Newport News Sheriff's Office. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will play a critical role in maintaining law and order in our community, ensuring public safety, and upholding the values of our organization.
Key Responsibilities- Intake and Classification: Process new inmates, conduct thorough searches, and accurately classify inmates for housing.
- Security and Supervision: Supervise inmates in custody, maintain a high level of security and control, and prevent escapes and injuries.
- Court Services: Serve as a bailiff/security in various courts, collect and transport inmates, and maintain order and security.
- Civil Process: Execute civil court orders, serve writs, and seize property as directed by the courts.
- Transportation and Escort: Transport inmates safely and securely to various locations, including courts, hospitals, and other facilities.
- Community Outreach: Participate in outreach programs to engage with the community, build relationships, and promote public safety.
- Law Enforcement Duties: Perform general law enforcement duties, including traffic enforcement, responding to emergencies, and providing support to other law enforcement agencies.
- Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Background Check: Requires an acceptable background check and credit check.
- Education: Must have a High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
- Driving Record: Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
