Position Summary
As a Heavy Equipment Technician B, you will play a pivotal role as a skilled technician, contributing significantly to product expertise and quality standards within the branch. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of standard operating procedures at the branch, regional, and national levels, while also serving as a mentor to junior mechanics. The primary responsibility of a Heavy Equipment Technician B is to leverage mechanical expertise to support the maintenance operations essential for keeping Herc Rentals' fleet in optimal condition. This is achieved through a robust preventative and corrective maintenance program, executed safely and professionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular preventative maintenance on all company-owned fleet at your location.
- Operate and assess equipment to ensure compliance with Herc Rentals' quality and efficiency benchmarks.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on all fleet equipment and vehicles with minimal oversight.
- Diagnose issues in internal combustion engines, DC electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems.
- Execute major repairs on fleet equipment using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and measuring instruments with minimal supervision.
- Carry out oil changes, lubrication, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements, and various other services.
- Utilize warranty repair timeframes to manage parts, accurately document parts and labor on work orders, or liaise with vendors as necessary.
- Input work orders and manage parts ordering through the fleet management system.
- Recondition and replace various components of heavy equipment.
- Identify and diagnose significant wear or damage on equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Generate timely and detailed service reports and repair logs.
Possess the ability to interpret detailed technical schematics, owner manuals, and product safety labels. Ownership of a sufficient range of hand and air/electric tools to perform most repairs and services is essential. Capability to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, and generators is required. Proficiency in computer skills to support data entry into systems is necessary. Strong communication, interpersonal skills, teamwork, and dependability are crucial for success in this role.
Educational Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
