Job Title: Elementary Indian Education Advisor

Shawnee Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and passionate Elementary Indian Education Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and cultural needs of our Indian students.

Job Summary:

The Elementary Indian Education Advisor will provide educational and career counseling, cultural enrichment, and support to Indian students, parents, and staff. This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individual and group assistance to Indian students, including cultural enrichment activities, tutoring, and career counseling.
  • Develop and implement cultural programs and events to promote Indian culture and heritage.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other staff members to ensure the academic and social success of Indian students.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including attendance, grades, and discipline.
  • Attend staff meetings, inservice programs, and other professional development opportunities.
Requirements:
  • Associate degree or 60 hours of college credit, or pass the Oklahoma General Education Test.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with Indian students and knowledge of their culture.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to move from various sites, carrying educational supplies and equipment. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students and staff, and demonstrate Indian cooking, customs, and other cultural activities.

Terms of Employment:

This is a 180-day contract position. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Shawnee Board Policy on evaluation of personnel.
