Position Overview:

The role of the Environmental Scientist involves contributing to a multidisciplinary team under the guidance of the Environmental Branch Chief. The incumbent will be tasked with the preparation and evaluation of intricate environmental and biological documentation, technical analyses, and reports to ensure adherence to various environmental regulations including the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).


Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the Project Biologist on departmental initiatives, focusing on the research, development, and assessment of comprehensive technical reports for compliance with CEQA/NEPA, CESA/FESA, and Section 7.
  • Conduct protocol-level field surveys for diverse plant and animal species, gathering essential data for biological evaluations.
  • Utilize GIS expertise to create maps and perform analyses to document both temporary and permanent impacts on critical resources.
  • Oversee and assess biological technical studies related to local agency documentation and Biological Assessments for FESA Section 7 consultations.
  • Prepare permit applications ensuring compliance with CESA and coordinate necessary information for complete submissions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external specialists to determine suitable mitigation strategies.
  • Act as a liaison with federal, state, and local regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance with environmental and biological legislation.
