Position: Lead Automation / Welding Engineer
FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary:
The Lead Automation / Welding Engineer is a critical role that focuses on automation and welding applications for both existing and new product launches. This position requires expertise in planning new applications, including process setup, equipment specification, acquisition, and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and engineering support to ensure the ongoing success of manufacturing operations and process optimization.
  • Design and enhance various welding and assembly processes.
  • Oversee the design, installation, and commissioning of automation and welding equipment.
  • Develop new welding and automation processes as required, including fixture designs and equipment specifications.
  • Collaborate with project engineers and program managers on new projects necessitating automation equipment.
  • Maintain and update machine building standards.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives on the shop floor to achieve cost and efficiency targets.
  • Train personnel in proper equipment operation and maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in designing and manufacturing welding and assembly cells, preferably in the automotive sector.
  • Certification as a Welding Inspector and/or Welding Engineer.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of welding, assembly, electrical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and PLC programming.
  • Strong grasp of Quality Assurance methodologies, including Control Plans, PFMEAs, Flow Diagrams, GD&T, SPC, and APQP.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage effectively with customers and equipment suppliers.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in steel and aluminum fabrication, welding, grinding, and assembly operations.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, ASME, or ISO standards is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities.
  • Experience with FMEA, APQP, PPAP, and SPC is highly desirable.
  • Ability to act independently within the scope of authority.

Salary:
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
