Behavior Specialist

Job Summary:
Fort Smith Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled Behavior Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing behavioral support to students, developing and implementing behavior plans, and collaborating with teachers and other staff to ensure student success.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide behavioral support to students, including one-on-one and small group sessions.
• Develop and implement behavior plans to address student behavioral needs.
• Collaborate with teachers and other staff to ensure student success.
• Monitor and observe student behaviors inside and outside the classroom setting.
• Respond and support student behavioral crisis situations.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.

Requirements:
• Bachelor's Degree in a related field, such as Social Work, Psychology, Education, or Mental Health Services.
• Experience working in public schools and with students with emotional disturbance and/or other challenging behaviors.
• Knowledge of positive behavior interventions and supports, as well as functional behavior assessments and behavior plans.
• Ability to work with an ethnically and educationally diverse group of students, parents, and staff.
• Non-violent crisis intervention and support (CPI) certified.

Working Conditions:
• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, squatting, and kneeling.
