Key Responsibilities:The Medical Office Technician is responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall efficiency of the clinic:
- Deliver exceptional patient experiences by providing a warm welcome and assisting them throughout their visit.
- Execute duties as outlined in the Healthcare Assistant (HAA) job description.
- Fulfill responsibilities associated with the Clinical Assistant role as per the relevant job description.
- Conduct in-house testing as permitted by available equipment and documented training.
- Maintain laboratory operations independently, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Collect patient specimens using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Ensure accurate patient identification and order verification.
- Review patient history pertinent to blood collection procedures.
- Assess and select the most suitable site for blood draws, ensuring proper technique and safety protocols.
- Adhere to safety regulations and universal precautions during specimen collection and processing.
- Prepare samples for transport to external laboratories, ensuring proper labeling and order accuracy.
- Communicate any abnormal or critical test results to the appropriate healthcare provider.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, reporting any malfunctions as necessary.
- Keep the work area organized, clean, and well-stocked, assisting with inventory management as needed.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in a physician office laboratory is preferred.
Licensure and Certification:
Phlebotomy certification is required upon hire or within the first year. Some practices may prefer certification as a nursing assistant. Additionally, employees may need to obtain federal drug screen collector credentials and breath alcohol technician certification within six months of employment.
Life Support Certification: AHA BLS-HCP certification is required within the first 90 days of employment.
Other Qualifications: Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills are essential. Attention to detail, dexterity, and organizational skills are crucial. Proficiency in electronic medical records and familiarity with clinical and clerical procedures is preferred.
