Job Summary

The Clinical Nursing Assistant is a vital member of the UNC Health team, responsible for delivering high-quality patient care in a hospital setting. Reporting to the Float Team leader, this role will float between various units, including Progressive Care, Medical/Surgical, Orthopaedic, Intensive Care, and Emergency Department, as directed by the house supervisor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians and other healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations.
  • Observe, collect, and document patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.
  • Assist patients and their families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital experience, and discharge.
  • Provide care and treatments to patients as outlined in the plan of care, including vital sign monitoring, specimen collection, skin preps, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range-of-motion exercises, and drain care.
  • Assist patients with routine activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and ambulation, as outlined in the plan of care.
  • Maintain an effective clinical work environment, including cleaning the work area, changing linens, maintaining and monitoring supply levels, and transporting patients and specimens throughout the hospital.
Qualifications
  • Must have nursing assistant certification, such as Nurse Aide I registration as administered by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of experience working in a clinical role in a hospital setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of experience working in a nursing assistant role in a hospital setting.
  • Nursing Aide II registration as administered by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) or equivalent.
