Job Description

 

The Ultrasound Diagnostic Imaging Specialist is responsible for delivering top-notch ultrasound services to patients. This role requires strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to creating a positive patient experience.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify anatomical orientation on all required images and ensure proper file identification

  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures and operating related equipment

  • Greet patients, obtain medical history, and enter information into computer systems

  • Scan according to established guidelines

  • Maintain accurate logs and process paperwork for biopsies

  • Utilize sterile techniques to prevent contamination

  • Meet quality standards related to HIPAA regulations

  • Responsible for the clinical aspects of ultrasonography suites, maintaining cleanliness, and stocking medical supplies

  • Assist with accreditation processes for the American College of Radiology (ACR)

  • Maintain CPR certification

  • Monitor patient vital signs during examinations

  • Provide coverage as needed, including call-outs and extended patient schedules

  • Offer instruction and mentoring to new hires

  • Deliver exceptional patient care, ensuring they understand the procedure, follow-up steps, and requirements

  • Communicate effectively with radiologists, physicians, patients, and families

  • Submit high-quality images without additional acquisitions; perform quality assurance on images and equipment

  • Contribute to efficient outpatient operations, maximizing modality productivity

  • Review examinations for technical accuracy, present completed exams to radiologists, and share pertinent data

  • Demonstrate teamwork and interact positively with employees to foster a collaborative environment

  • Meet deadlines, demonstrate accountability, flexibility, and adaptability

  • Pursue professional growth, certifications, and active continuing medical education (CMEs)

  • Acquire patient charts and requisitions, reviewing them to determine correct setups and learn about specific medical issues or contraindications

  • Educate patients regarding procedures, equipment, and exams to ensure understanding and safety

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of an ultrasonic technology course

  • RDMS certification

  • At least 2 years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist

  • Able to follow instructions and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and employees

  • Able to use or learn departmental computerized systems and associated devices

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or Baccalaureate degree in radiography, radiation therapy, or nuclear medicine

  • At least 2 years of experience as a General Radiologic Technologist

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to lift patients weighing up to 300 pounds and place them in appropriate positions for equipment operation

  • Correctable vision to 20/20 for equipment operation and film review
