Job Summary

This is a full-time position that requires working 40 hours per week. The purpose of this classification is to provide oversight and counseling to juvenile offenders placed on supervision with the Court.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides probationary supervision for a caseload of juvenile offenders.
  • Reviews Court orders and Court records to determine obligations and appropriate services for juvenile offenders.
  • Collects and documents case intake data.
  • Obtains school records and family social history information to develop an appropriate service plan/recommendations.
  • Prepares Pre-Dispositional Investigative Report and other pre-dispositional reports for use of screening/placement of youth.
  • Formulates service plans/recommendations for disposition to the Court on juvenile offenders.
  • Meets regularly with youth and families to review conditions of probation, in order to monitor compliance with Court orders.
  • Issues sanctions/motions for revocation/apprehension orders on juvenile offenders who are non-compliant with Court orders.
  • Makes referrals for counseling and other services as needed.
  • Conducts school and home visits to monitor the compliance of juvenile offenders.
  • Assists parents/guardians with the filing of complaints/KidsNet referrals on juvenile offenders.
  • Attends pre-hearing conferences and makes recommendations for disposition to the court.
  • Attends detention and adjudication hearings; attends placement screenings, transition meetings and disciplinary tribunals as representative of best interest of juveniles.
  • Serves as court liaison or assist with various task forces, committees, agencies, and organizations; represents the court at various meetings.
  • Answers after-hour call duty for law enforcement agencies and Department of Family Children Services (DFCS) and makes detention decisions and issues Dependency Removal Orders when applicable.
  • Makes detention and transportation arrangements on youth being detained.
  • Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, caseload reports, petitions, complaints, summonses, subpoenas, court orders, probation conditions, informal adjustment letters/agreements, restitution letters, social history reports, community service lists, dockets, statistical reports, transportation requests, work orders, mileage reimbursement forms, or other documents.
  • Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, schedules, court documents, police incident reports, restitution charts, case closure forms, judicial review reports, time sheets, court guidelines, law books, codes, policies, procedures, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
  • Must be directly responsible for a critical non-supervisory or case management function that is necessary for optimal Court operations.
  • Must be knowledgeable in all phases of Court procedures and protocols of Court operations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, or closely related field.
  • Three (3) years previous experience and/or training in juvenile probation (at least 2 years as a Probation Officer II), juvenile offender case management, court procedures, law enforcement, social work and computer operations.
  • Minimum 25 hours of continuing education training in Juvenile Justice.
  • Receive update training as required regarding changes in laws and Court procedures.
