Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with experience and skill level, starting at $25 per hour for credentialed technicians, with experienced technicians earning between $28 and $32 per hour.
Role Summary:
The primary objective of this position is to assist the Specialist with diagnostics, treatments, and procedures, ensuring the highest quality of care for our patients. The Veterinary Technician must exhibit meticulous attention to detail and uphold rigorous standards of cleanliness and care. Effective communication with doctors and colleagues is essential for ensuring accuracy and satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Specialist with incoming consultations and procedures, including managing appointment schedules and liaising with departments.
- Coordinate diagnostics and procedures with Imaging and Anesthesia services.
- Provide nursing support for treatment or diagnostic requests.
- Conduct patient assessments, obtain vital signs, place intravenous catheters, perform phlebotomy, intubations, administer injections, and assist with radiology and laboratory tasks.
- Accurately document and communicate patient information in medical records.
- Report patient status and changes to the doctor and ICU staff.
- Maintain a clean and comfortable environment for all patients.
- Set up and maintain necessary equipment, demonstrating knowledge of monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Safely restrain patients as needed.
- Prepare and administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Collect, prepare, label, and analyze laboratory specimens.
- Assist with patient euthanasia and aftercare in a compassionate manner.
- Perform routine tasks such as suture removals, ear cleaning, and nail trims.
- Educate clients on nutrition, home care, medication administration, and post-operative care.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization in specialty department areas.
- Train less experienced staff on policies, procedures, and technical skills.
- Cross-train to provide assistance in various hospital areas as required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a veterinary setting.
- Ability to perform all key responsibilities of a Veterinary Technician Assistant.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and sanitation practices.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and equipment.
- Proficient in calculating dosages and administering injections.
- Understanding of CPR and rescue breathing techniques.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and anticipate the needs of the medical team.
- Capable of remaining calm and responsive in emergency situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good personal grooming and hygiene practices.
- Team-oriented mindset with a focus on fostering a positive workplace culture.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Physical capability to lift and handle animals weighing up to 50 lbs.
Educational Background:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree and/or Technician Certification preferred.
